SHS Student Photography Does Well at State Contest

The SHS student photography entered in the state 2024 GFWC NFWC High School photography contest did well and garnered 13 awards at the recent state contest, including “Best of Show!”

Winning the “Best of Show” at the State GFWC NFWC High School photography contest was SHS senior Madison Kramer with her black and white photo in the category of “Our World Up Close.”  Other winners in that category included Madison Kramer-First Place-B/W, Holden Bremer-Second Place-B/W, Sierra Brauer-First Place-Color and Jaxon Bierman-Second Place Color.

In the category of “Reflections,” winning First place in Color was Liam Krahulik and Holden Bremer place Third in Color, Olivia Delcamp placed First and Second in B/W and Brooklyn Stonaker was named Third in B/W.

In the category of “Natural Wonders” Holden Bremer placed First in color and Taelynn Hobson was named Third place in Color.  In “Natural Wonders” B/W Sierra Brauer was named First Place in B/W.

The students were all recognized for their photo art and hung at the State Art Show during the GFWC NFWC Convention. There is not a national contest and the photography will be returned to the high school art department.  Each winning student won a ribbon or rosette with the award.

The state photography judge was professional photographer Emily Nix of Seward.  At the local level for the Seward Photography contest, the local judge was professional photographer Ken Schmieding of Seward.  The local SHS photography teacher is the art teacher at Seward High Nathan Knott.  The local sponsors of the GFWC Student Photography Contest is the GFWC Seward Woman’s Club and the GFWC Seward Junior Woman’s Club with Jean Kolterman-SWC and Jo Ellen Axthelm-SJWC as Co-Chair of the event.
