Bosmeniel Medals at State Speech as First Runner-up in Serious Prose

Congrats to Thomas Bosmeniel placing First Runner-Up in the Serious Prose Literature at the NSAA State Speech Contest at Kearney, Nebraska on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  He presented at ten minute cutting from the short story “Tell Tale Heart” by E. A. Poe. He received five Superior ratings at the contest and was the only one from Seward High to break into finals.

Other State Qualifiers from Seward were Kenna Gottschalk in Poetry with a collection of poems on “Motivation,” Madalyn Lobmeyer in Persuasion with a ten minute memorized persuasive speech on “The War on Drugs,” and the SHS Drama Team/Oral Interpretation of Drama (OID) who presented a cutting from Steven King’s novel Misery.  Members of the Drama team included Thomas Bosmeniel, Greta Hughes, Abby Van Velson, Virginia Glaser and Emily O’Kief.

The students each presented their presentation twice during the tourney and Thomas completed a third time for a panel of three judges in the finals.

The team was accompanied by their Speech Coach, Clark Kolterman and Assistant Speech Coach Melissa Pohl.

“I was very proud of all of our speech team members this year, those on the Varsity/Conference/District team as well as the many new faces and freshmen that participated at our many tourneys!” State Coach Clark Kolterman.  “We had a very successful year and I feel that the team will continue to grow in the years ahead, as the foundation has been established and they know what it takes to be successful!”

The SHS speech team participated in six area tourneys-Concordia University, Osceola, Aurora, David City, Aquinas, and Waverly, along with the Central Conference and District Speech Contest sponsored by the NSAA for the 2018 year.
