Seward High Speech Team Places Third At Speech Districts-Seven Students Qualify for State

The Seward High Speech Team placed Third overall at the NSAA B Districts on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Lincoln Southwest High School. The team was complete, with two participants from SHS filled in each of the nine events for the contest.   The SHS Team had eleven students medal in eight events, and seven qualified for the State Speech Contest in Kearney on March 22, 2018.

The SHS Drama/Oral Interpretation of Drama Team (OID) was named District Champion at the contest.  The five member team consists of Thomas Bosmeniel, Greta Hughes, Emily O Kief, Virginia Glaser, and Abby VanVelson. They present a cutting from the story Misery.  They qualified to represent the District.  To be a State Qualifier, the entry had to place in the top three at Districts.

Other State Qualifiers included Thomas Bosmeniel in Serious Prose-second, Kenna Gottschalk in Poetry-third and Madalyn Lobmeyer in Persuasive Speaking-second.  Other finalists and medalists included Andrew Alley Humorous-Fifth, Cordell Vrbka Entertaining-Sixth, Nora Halder Serious-Sixth, Madalyn Lobmeyer Informative-Sixth, and Virginia Glaser and Rory Nolan Duet-Sixth. 

Students receiving Superior Ratings at Districts from SHS included Andrew Alley, Thomas Bosmeniel, Ela Davis Schmit, Peyton Davis Schmit, Virginia Glaser, Kenna Gottschalk, Carissa Gottschalk, Nora Halder, Jarod Harris, Greta Hughes, J.J. Metschke, Madalyn Lobmeyer, Nathan Miller, Bailey Mooney, Rory Nolan, Emily O’Kief, Macie Spotanksi, Abby VanVelson, Cordell Vrbka.

The State Qualifiers will now compete at the State Speech Contest at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on March 22, 2018 in the Class B contest.  Each event will have 18 in the contest for the State Championship from across the State of Nebraska. 

In the B-3 NSAA Speech District, SHS placed Third overall, while the contest was won by Norris and Crete was Second.  Milford placed Fourth, and other schools participating were Waverly, Fairbury, Lincoln Christian and Beatrice.
